2014 Race to the Top – Equity and Opportunity

In March 2014, The White House issued a press release that outlined President Obama’s plans for the Race to the Top: Equity and Opportunity initiative. In part, the release stated:

“The President’s budget provides $300 million for a new Race to the Top: Equity and Opportunity competition, incentivizing states and school districts to undertake comprehensive efforts to close achievement and opportunity gaps by attracting and retaining effective teachers and leaders, enhancing student supports, increasing access to rigorous coursework, and leveraging data to improve outcomes for students. RTT–Opportunity would reinforce the existing Race to the Top program that has spurred reform and systemic change in states and districts across the country.”
