An Interview with the U.S. Department of Education’s Greg Darnieder

A couple of weeks ago, Greg Darnieder, Senior Advisor to U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, met with a group of AVID Center staff to discuss a number of issues. AVID program preps students for college

MILLSBORO — New York University, Texas A&M, University of Delaware — flags from around the nation hang from the ceiling of Kim Cooper’s Advancement Via Individual Determination program class at Millsboro Middle School, just a few feet over the heads of her eighth-grade students, many of whom are working to be the first in their families to attend college.
During class they’re learning about persuasive writing, but they’re also building off of each other, improving their public speaking skills and learning to be more organized through the national college readiness system... more
