Iseoluwa Adebayo
Simley High School – Inver Grove Heights, MN

“AVID has improved my life in many ways. Before AVID, I used to be messy, but since AVID, I have been more organized. I was not good at making friends, but in AVID, I have been able to make more friends. I have also been able to get more help from the tutors in AVID if I am confused with my class work.”

Iseoluwa is a first-year AVID student, who has quickly risen to the top of his freshman AVID Elective class. He sets himself apart with his strong work ethic and a constant search for perfection. He doesn’t make excuses for not climbing obstacles that stand in his way, but rather, he tears them down with his never-quit attitude and tries to come out stronger and better on the other side of any setback that he faces—behavior of a true leader! Iseoluwa has his sights set on a medical career after high school, and he will no doubt reach this goal because he still has four years in high school to solidify an application to any college of his choice!

Anjelai Hayes
Woodbury Junior-Senior High School – Woodbury, NJ

“AVID has been very beneficial to me. I have learned the importance of organization, proper note-taking, studying techniques, how to work productively in groups, and how to be a role model among my peers. Without AVID, I wouldn't have developed into the high school student I am now.”

Anjelai is the embodiment of a true AVID role model. She demonstrates those characteristics that will ensure she will be successful in college and beyond: dedication, determination, and leadership. She has expressed her leadership capabilities by being elected to serve on the Board of Education as her school’s student representative. She is someone who peers and faculty can count on to serve or assist others when needed. Anjelai is a young lady who exudes an enthusiasm to achieve. She puts the “ID” in AVID.

Maela Stevens
Wilbur Middle School – Wichita, KS

“I have made so many friends, and this class is like my family. I honestly don't know where I would be right now without AVID. This family guides me to succeed. When I am slipping in class, my fellow AVID peers will get me back on track. AVID has given me so many opportunities. I have become a better student, person, and peer because of AVID. For that, I am thankful.”

When Maela first arrived in AVID, she was a shy, compliant student. Since then, Maela has become a standout leader—even earning the distinguished status of AVID Ambassador. She maintains a 3.8 GPA and is a standout on her volleyball team. Whenever volunteer opportunities arise, she is always in the mix. In November of 2014, Maela and a small group led a professional development during an in-service day to teach our staff about the AVID Tutorial Process.

Eugenie Ishimwe
Cheney Middle School – West Fargo, ND

“I am not sure I would be successful in my educational career without AVID. I have learned a lot from AVID. There are three things that really stand out to me when I think about what AVID has done for me: how to ask good questions, how to be organized, and how to take amazing notes. I will not waste the knowledge that AVID has taught, and I will use it for a lifetime. AVID truly is like a second family!”

Eugenie Ishimwe exemplifies AVID rigor with her individual determination! She has not only adjusted and excelled academically, but she has also overcome personal challenges. She moved to the United States at age nine from Africa. In her two-and-a-half years of AVID, Eugenie has gained the skills to model the highest level of thinking. She is also the best at asking her peers questions to help them solve their point of confusion during the tutorial. Eugenie is respected. More than any other student, Eugenie is recognized by her peers as someone who is a leader, a thinker, a learner, and the most organized. She humbly accepts the compliments and continues to strive to be even better. She is truly an AVID Superstar!

Daniela Bailon Camacho
Findlay Middle School – North Las Vegas, NV

“AVID has inspired me to become more confident in myself and be who I want to be!”

Daniela proves every day that age does not determine success. As a student, she gives 120% everyday, while recognizing the importance of each lesson. As a person, Daniela exemplifies the qualities of the greatest AVID students. She makes her teachers proud every day.
